Investigating Hearing Difficulties and Hearing Aid Benefits for People with Subclinical Hearing Loss

Approximately 5-15% of people seeking help for hearing difficulties have normal or close to normal hearing thresholds. This group is motivated for treatment, but currently, there is no standardized way of diagnosing or treating this population, which typically leads them to be sent home without any further treatment plan and told to come back once the hearing difficulties have progressed. There has been limited research indicating that this population perceive subjective benefit from hearing aids, however objective benefits of hearing treatment remain sparse.

This project aims to identify this population´s hearing difficulties both in their everyday life in the field and via extended audiological tests. A further objective is to investigate the potential benefits (subjective and objective) of different treatment options, which can hopefully contribute to more evidence which could ultimately lead to a more visible clinical pathway for this population.
