Erik Jakobsen graduated as MD in 1984. In 2001 he received his authorisation as Medical Specialist in Thoracic Surgery. Subsequently Erik was employed as Staff Specialist and since May 2002 as Senior Hospital Physician at Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, OUH Odense University Hospital. In the summer of 1999 Erik was appointed entrepreneur and head of the Danish Lung Cancer Registry (DLCR), the registry, with administrative office at Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, OUH, collects clinical and epidemiological data concerning assessment and treatment of lung cancer in Denmark. Approx. 38.000 patients are registered. The original and primary goal for DLCR is to develop quality assessment and treatment of lung cancer. DLCR also wishes to use the available data for research purposes, which is now carried out by Erik Jakobsen's affiliation to OPEN as Clinical Associate Professor in a part-time position (25 %). Besides his affiliation to OPEN, Erik continues his work as Senior Hospital Physician at Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (75 %). Erik's affiliation ensures the exploration of DLCR's data in research covering four main areas: Epidemiological description of lung cancer, method development in the use of clinical databases for research, description of national and international differences and participation in clinical research.
