OPEN was established in 2008 as a co-operation between Odense University Hospital and the University of Southern Denmark with the purpose of providing assistance to health science researchers in the Region of Southern Denmark regarding data collection, biobank, register data and formalities concerning their research projects. In 2018, OPEN's own research unit was established at the Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark with activities within a number of research areas with special focus on register research, epidemiological research (including clinical, pharmacological and generic epidemiology) and nursing research (including qualitative research).
