300.000 tubes in the biobank

OPEN’s biobank now contains more than 300.000 tubes… and wish for more!

OPEN was inaugurated in autumn 2008, as part of OUH’s research strategy, and now - 5 years later - OPEN has grown significantly in several ways. OPEN’s biobank now contains more than 300.000 tubes from a long list of research project in the Region of Southern Denmark, - there is biological material from more than 12.000 human subjects! The OPEN concept in all its simplicity is a tool to strengthen the collaborations between researchers regionally, nationally and internationally and thereby generate new knowledge in the field of health science, this is done by promoting the projects on OPENs website, so other researchers can read about them and develop new ideas of how this data and biological material can be used to answer other scientific questions, which aren’t already part of the original project. You may find the list of projects on OPENs website.

In addition to supporting research biobanks OPEN also provides other services: Database structure for handling clinical data and questionnaires, web-randomization, guidance and support for register studies, authorization for Statistics Denmark and general advice for researchers. Read more about OPEN’s facilities here.

At the moment OPEN is also planning not only to support research biobanks with handling biological material, database facilities for registration and storage, but also financial support. The call for applications will be announced in the near future on the Region of Southern Denmark’s Intranet, OUH’s Intranet and NEWS from Institute of Clinical Research.
