My research interests and experience are in biogeochemistry and its links to microbial ecology, with special interest in the transformations of carbon, nitrogen, iron, manganese, and sulfur, and the influence of these processes on global element cycles. I am exploring these subjects in hadal sediments, where particularly the anaerobic processes have hardly been studied.
