My current work as a Postdoc student focuses on carbon and nitrogen cycling associated with sinking organic matter, specifically, fecal pellets and carcasses of zooplankton.

In particular, I unravel:

  1. the processes involved in degradations of sinking carcasses
  2. the degradation rate of sinking organic matter
  3. how physical factors like temperature can affect these processes

The results will provide insights on the importance of sinking zooplankton carcasses for the oceanic carbon pump and the potential for fueling microbial activity in the deep ocean
