Vigorous Intermittent Lifestyle Physical Activity

Objectives and Impact

Scientific Objectives

  1. Intervention Development – Apply user-centered design and behaviour change theory to create an app that prompts, quantifies, and reinforces up to 1-minute bouts of vigorous lifestyle activity embedded in daily routines (e.g., brisk stair climbs).

  2. Feasibility & Acceptability – Determine recruitment, retention, engagement and usability metrics through a mixed-methods pilot study.

  3. Efficacy Test – Estimate preliminary effects on cardiometabolic risk markers (e.g., blood pressure, body composition) and patient-reported outcomes (well-being, motivation) relative to usual care controls.

Anticipated Impact

If successful, the intervention will offer a scalable, low-cost strategy to attenuate age-related cardiovascular risk and improve quality of life in mid-life women — a demographic with generally low adherence to current physical activity guidelines.
