My past research has looked to quantify how the interacting effects of human management of landscapes and climate change will affect water quality using environmental modeling. Specifically, I have employed the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) to quantify nutrient runoff from agricultural landscapes and identify pathways for reducing nutrient runoff under various climate scenarios. Much of my work has focused on engaging key stakeholders (e.g., governmental and non-governmental organizations, landowners) on modeling projects to improve the relevance and use of model results. Additionally, some of my past work has integrated environmental models into user-friendly tools for decision making.

In the Aqua-NbS center, I will be working to build locally and regionally relevant environmental models to quantify how aquatic nature-based solutions can address both water quality and carbon storage under climate change. The interdisciplinary expertise of the center will be used to generate land-management scenarios for environmental models tailored for use in policy and decision-making contexts.
