Dr David Beran will play a central role in the global DIAMOND-2 project, which aims to improve data on the global incidence and prevalence of type 1 diabetes and strengthen capacity in low- and middle-income countries. His work will support SDCO’s mission to advance diabetes research and care both in Denmark and internationally.

At SDU, Dr Beran will further strengthen the collaboration between the University of Geneva and SDCO. As an adjunct professor, he will support international research networks, contribute to joint PhD and postdoc programmes, and share his knowledge through lectures and seminars.

– Dr Beran’s unique expertise in global type 1 diabetes research fits perfectly with SDCO’s strategy to expand international partnerships, ultimately benefitting both research and patient care, says Kurt Højlund, professor and head of research at SDCO.

Dr David Beran is an assistant professor at the Division of Tropical and Humanitarian Medicine, University of Geneva. He has extensive experience in global health, with a particular focus on improving health systems and access to diabetes care and essential medicines such as insulin.

His work has taken him to countries including Kyrgyzstan, Mali, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Vietnam and Zambia. He has previously been affiliated with University College London and has participated in several projects on type 1 diabetes in low- and middle-income countries.

In 2021, he began a visiting professorship at SDCO through the Danish Diabetes Academy, which resulted in a white paper on type 1 diabetes in Denmark.
