Pre-Conference Workshops take place on Tuesday, 11 September 2012. All of the workshops are related to the existing research clusters within the Distributed Language Group (Make link). The main objective of the workshops is to bring active research cluster members and other interested parties together in relation to common research interests.
In keeping with the exploratory nature of the workshops, they vary in formality and procedure. Some of the workshops are designed to provide opportunities for conference participants to present and discuss their completed work, while others are less conference-like, allowing for the exchange of ideas and work that are still in the formative stages. In addition, the workshops are also organized as informal channel for participants to discuss methodological challenges and issues at stake within the themes of the different workshops. Furthermore, workshops also include analyzing and interpreting data together in an open forum amongst workshop participants. Thus the workshops are diverse in form and content, but they share the common objective of generating new ideas and new research collaboration among conference participants within the different research clusters.
