Research areas

What are the mechanisms that allow high-fidelity reproduction and propagation of life?

Using the advanced research infrastructure, we will study transcriptional control, metabolic regulation, cell cycle and cell division, cell signaling, epigenetic mechanisms, etc, in biological model systems.

What are the molecular events that control cellular functions and development?

We will investigate post-transcriptional and post-translational regulation mechanisms and networks to identify key ’on-off’ switches that drive development and differentiation of cells. We will study biological membranes and organelles to identify key structural components, enzymes, receptors and mediators of signaling within cells.

How to discover new biological features based on systematic, accurate and quantitative measurements of biomolecules in complex organisms?

We will develop novel experimental, computational and statistical approaches to identify specific features in large-scale quantitative datasets obtained from cells, tissues and organisms.

Can computer-based modelling be used to predict biological responses to perturbations?

Based on quantitative bioanalytical datasets and current knowledge we will build computer models of molecular assemblies and biological networks, which are subsequently tested for their ability to predict biological phenomena.
