Research Area:
Characterization of women with previous gestational diabetes mellitus and the responses to high-intensity interval training in women.
Main research questions:
- Identify and characterize the metabolic abnormalities in women with previous gestational diabetes mellitus, that may explain the increased risk of type 2 diabetes and other cardiometabolic diseases.
- Understand how these metabolic abnormalities can be explained by unique molecular abnormalities in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue.
- Investigate the potential improvements in the metabolic and metabolic abnormalities from eight weeks of high-intensity interval training combining rowing and cycling.
- Investigate if the positive effects of eight weeks of high-intensity interval training are greater when combining rowing and cycling compared with recruitment of only lower-body muscle groups by cycling in healthy women.
