Research Unit of SDCO

Research unit of Steno Diabetes Center Odense (SDCO)

About the research unit

The research strategy of Steno Diabetes Center Odense aims to strengthen the clinical and translational research in diabetes with an ultimate goal of benefitting people with or at the risk of developing diabetes. We wish to play an important role in the treatment and prevention of diabetes and to further develop the strong existing diabetes research community in Denmark.

Our research covers a broad range of research areas, and we target both patient-related clinical research and basic science with a clinical anchoring. We have five strategic focus areas: pathophysiology, pregnancy and diabetes, clinical interventions, diabetes care and public involvement, as well as cardiovascular complications, all with a particular focus on type 2 diabetes. The sixth strategic focus area in SDCO is the DD2, which is a Danish registry and biobank of approximately 10.000 newly diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes.

The research at Steno Diabetes Center Odense is built on a close collaboration with other departments at Odense University Hospital, the regional hospitals in the Region of Southern Denmark, as well as research units at the University of Southern Denmark.
