The Centre for Sports, Health and Civil Society's (CISC) aim is, through research and development work, to contribute to:
- Research in the humanities and social sciences relating to sport, health and civil society, with particular emphasis on the relationship between them.
- Knowledge exchange and innovation within the field of sport and health policy, inter alia with a view to improving the basis for action and decision-making by the voluntary sector and public authorities.
- The development of theory and methodology in this field.
- The dissemination of research within the areas in which the centre’s researchers are engaged, including contributing to international knowledge exchange through publication in recognised journals.
The Centre is based at the Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics at the University of Southern Denmark. The Centre represents a continuation and further development of the research that has been carried out in association with Gerlev Sports College since the mid-1970s.
