The CFES was established in 2014 at the Odense University Hospital’s Department of Clinical Research. Led by prof. Peter Zvara with more than 25 years of experience in performing surgery using a variety of rodent animal models, the unit also includes an associate professor, a postdoctoral researcher, students, and adjunct researchers.
In 2026 the CFES became a core facility of The Danish Center for Mouse Transgenics and Advanced Phenotyping (DCM-TAP). The center collaborates closely with the Biomedical Laboratory at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). It works in partnership with SDU research groups and OUH clinical departments, as well as external institutions such as the University of Vermont and Ostrava University.
