Biography:

Martin Wirenfeldt Nielsen is an attending physician in pathology at University Hospital of Southern Denmark in Esbjerg and Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Regional Health Research at University of Southern Denmark. Martin has a Ph.D. in neurobiology from University of Southern Denmark and has done post-doctoral training at Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Los Angeles, USA. Since 2016, Martin has been a certified pathologist and has been affiliated as a clinical associate professor at the faculty of health sciences at University of Southern Denmark.

Neuroscience, neurobiology and neuropathology in general are Martin’s main fields of interest in research. In particular, biology and dynamics of microglia in health and disease are main research areas for Martin. Biological changes and neuropathology behind mental diseases are new areas in which Martin is developing research.
