Dr. Finsen’s main research interest is to understand the role of neuroinflammation in Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis, and the interactions between the neurons and the glial cells in these diseases. Her lab is particularly interested in understanding the homeostatic, protective, toxic, as well as pro-regenerative functions of the CNS macrophages, especially the tissue-resident microglial cells. Dr. Finsen also has a long-standing interest in understanding basic aspects of remyelination and to exploit the protective effects on immune cell involvement on remyelination. The Finsen lab combines the use of experimental animal models, including transgenic and inducible cell-specific knockout models, cell culture models, and human brain bank material, to address their research questions.
