Research unit of OPEN - Open Patient data Explorative Network

OPEN will soon be open for all health researchers at hospitals in the Region of Southern Denmark

From the 1st of January 2018 OPEN will be accessible for health researchers at the regional hospital units: Littlebelt Hospital, South-West Jutland Hospital, South Jutland Hospital incl. Kong Christian X’s Hospital (Hospital of Rheumatology) and the Hospital of Psychiatry.

For some time, health researchers from hospitals in the region, apart from Odense University Hospital (OUH), have been requesting to be able to use OPEN on the same terms as OUH/the Department of Clinical Research. After meeting in the regional strategic research council, it has been decided to finance the expansion of OPEN from the 1st of January 2018, so that OPEN now assists health researchers in all of the Region of Southern Denmark, at the same terms.

OPEN offers a number of facilities for researchers in the Region of Southern Denmark: Set-up of research data bases, safe handling of research data, online randomisation, issuing of surveys, use of NVivo for qualitative research, help with register based research and statistics, along with general advice. Please read more about OPEN’s facilities at OPEN’s website (SDU) and watch OPEN’s presentation at OUH TALKS  from 8th of November this year.

For OPEN to help you with your research project, please apply for admission. The OPEN application form is retrieved from our website at Application to OPEN. The form is sent to open@rsyd.dk, please attach the protocol (as complete as possible), summary, budget and the approvals already obtained. If the approvals are not yet obtained, please forward them later on. You do not need to make specific project desciptions for OPEN, we are happy to receive whatever documents you have used in other regards. But please bear in mind, that the more we know about the project, the better we can understand your needs.

Once we receive your application, we will arrange an OPEN admission meeting where we discuss your project with you and find out how best to help you. For you who work at another hospital than OUH we offer to arrange a potential meeting with your data manager in continuation hereof.

As a general rule, OPEN is free of charge for the individual researcher as we are centrally financed, but we encourage all researchers from all hospitals in the region to consider data management in their budget when applying for external funds. OPEN’s staff registers all hours spent on the project and if you receive funds, we can invoice you for these hours. Remember, the more resources OPEN receives, the more projects we are able to assist. Some projects have special requests or needs, and in these cases some co-financing might be necessary.

You can send your application right away, but the admission meeting will take place at the beginning of 2018, when the expansion of OPEN becomes effective. If we receive a lot of applications in January, please have patience with the possibility of extended processing time.

If you have any questions for the above-mentioned, please send an e-mail to open@rsyd.dk or call +45 29 16 67 30.
