Professor Nikos Ntoumanis elected Fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology

Professor Nikos Ntoumanis has been named a Fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology, a distinction reserved for no more than 200 active scholars worldwide. Fellows are nominated by their peers and elected for lasting contributions to the field.

Professor Nikos Ntoumanis has been elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology (NAK), one of the highest honours in the field of kinesiology. The Academy’s purpose is to promote the study and educational applications of human movement and physical activity, and to honour individuals who have made significant contributions to the science and application of kinesiology.

Election to NAK Fellowship is a highly prestigious recognition of sustained scholarly excellence, leadership, and impact. New Fellows are nominated by existing Fellows, evaluated by a membership committee, voted into membership by the Academy, and formally inducted at the Academy’s annual meeting. The Academy’s bylaws state that Active Fellows are elected for their “continuing and outstanding contributions” to kinesiology, with the number of Active Fellows capped at 200 at any one time.

In the official letter from NAK President Professor Monica A. F. Lounsbery, Professor Ntoumanis’ election was described as “one of the highest honors our field can offer” and a recognition of the esteem in which his peers hold his scholarship and leadership. Professor Ntoumanis will be formally inducted at the NAK Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon, in October 2026.
