Job demands and psychological well-being within Danish prosecutors (ADAPT)

A prospective cohort study on psychosocial work environment, well-being and sickness absence among Danish prosecutors.

Background

Danish prosecutors play a crucial role in the Danish legal system. But due to work content and organizational conditions they are at an increased risk of developing mental health problems like burnout and secondary traumatization.

Purpose

The aim of the study is:

  • To investigate the association between high quantitative and emotional demands at work and development of work related mental health problems and sickness absence in the Danish prosecutors.
  • To investigate what workplace preventive initiatives that can moderate the association  between quantitative and emotionel demands and work related mental health problems and sickness absence.

Design

ADAPT is a mixed methods study. The study I based on a three-year prospective chort of all Danish prosecutors. Data is collected through survey questionnaires combined with organization data on registered sickness absence as well as registered case type and caseload. The study also utilizes qualitative semi structured interviews, to investigate the prosecutors' experiences of legal proceedings in court as well as their experience of social support.
