We are developing Ångström-scale chemical engineering involving functionalized LNA and DNA for applications within nucleic acid nanotechnology. We have engineered a reliable molecular communication systems based on interstrand pyrene excimer formation between 2-N-(pyren-1-yl)methyl-2-amino-LNA monomers as the first demonstration of the wide-ranging possibilities that functionalized 2-amino-LNA building blocks offer for the generation of functional nucleic acid architectures. Functionalized DNA and LNA is furthermore studied towards future generation optimized nucleic acid therapeutics.
