This site is only in Danish

The Centre for Gender and Diversity is a platform for interdisciplinary research, teaching and communication concerning gender and diversity and hosts projects that address issues related to gender and diversity from a cultural analytical point of view. The centre is anchored at Department of Culture and Language at the University of Southern Denmark.

Strong platform for research

The Centre for Gender and Diversity works to qualify, develop, and disseminate research about gender and diversity across the University of Southern Denmark and in collaboration with external stakeholders. The centre serves as a research hub that brings together employees from all over the university as well as visiting researchers who work cultural analytically with gender and diversity.

The centre's research is based on an interdisciplinary humanistic approach rooted in, for example, critical feminism, Cultural Studies, affect theory, posthumanism and media theory. Gender and diversity are thus broadly understood and analysed across local, national, and global contexts.

Sustainable Development Goals in focus

The Centre for Gender and Diversity is the first Danish gender research centre to explicitly commit to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. The centre's activities relate to goals 5 (gender), 10 (inequality), 3 (health) and 16 (inclusion), and in this way the centre contributes to establishing SDU as a central knowledge centre for Scandinavian research in these areas.

Committed to the SDGs, the centre initiates and supports research projects working within the following themes:

  1. Gender, including research on structural discrimination, marginalisation, and exclusion (target 5, in particular 5.1, 5.5 and 5C).
  2.  Inequality, including research focusing on race, ethnicity, religion and racism (goals 10.2, 10.3) and body and functioning (goals 4.5 and 10.2).
  3. Reproductive health and autonomy, with a particular focus on reproductive technologies and health legislation, norms and practices (SDG 3, in particular 3.3 and 3.7, 4.5 and 5.6).
  4. Inclusion, democratisation, representation, and citizenship (SDG 16, in particular 16.6, 16.7, 16B and 3.3)

The Centre for Gender and Diversity also works actively to strengthen knowledge of research-based knowledge about gender and diversity and to qualify the public conversation on these themes.
