Hidden Violence in Later Life – The Difficult to See, the Difficult to Speak Out
Loneliness, vulnerability, neglect, abuse, and violence among older adults often occur in secret. The signs can be subtle, unclear, or tabooed – which means serious problems can grow unnoticed.
We therefore invite you to an open dialogue, where we will discuss how to:- Detect the difficult issues in time
- Break the taboo and make it easier to reach out
- Strengthen what works in practice – at home, in care, and in the community
A safe and dignified old age should be for everyone – even when life makes one most vulnerable.

Can you die from vulnerability?
Is vulnerability an inevitable part of old age – or is it shaped by the organisation of the healthcare system and political choices? At the Folkemøde 2025, we focused on how encounters between older adults and the healthcare system can shape experiences of vulnerability and dignity. Do current healthcare strategies contribute to maintaining older people in a position of dependency, or can we rethink the system so that it instead strengthens autonomy and quality of life? The political decisions we make today play a significant role in how older adults experience the final years of their lives.
