Communication is fundamental to human life. It shapes how people learn, build relationships, participate in society, and develop throughout the lifespan.
The Centre for Human Communication, Participation and Development examines how communication shapes people's opportunities to learn, participate, and thrive throughout life. Through research on language, interaction, multilingualism, and communication development, the Centre generates knowledge and develops interventions that strengthen inclusion, well-being, and participation for children, young people, and adults.
Bringing together expertise from sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, interaction studies, language development, multilingualism, speech-, language, and hearing therapy, the Centre examines how language and communication develop across the lifespan and support learning, participation, relationships, and well-being.
The Centre studies how children and adults acquire, use, and adapt language and other communicative resources to participate in social life. It also investigates how communication contributes to positive change and develops, implements, and evaluates interventions that enhance communication, participation, and development across a range of social contexts.
Through collaboration with practitioners, policymakers, public authorities, healthcare services, community organizations, and citizens, the Centre seeks to generate knowledge that makes a meaningful difference in people's lives.
