Vision

To help create a paradigm shift from viewing older people as a costly medical burden toward recognising them as self-reliant individuals capable of active participation in life.

Through well-tailored public health interventions, the Center contributes to increasing Healthy Life Years, in alignment with the EU Health Programme.

Impact

The Center aims to develop sustainable welfare innovation models within primary and secondary prevention by creating innovative, evidence-based approaches that:

  • Optimise health care services for older adults.
  • Reduce health care costs.
  • Support independence, mobility, and quality of life in later life.

Practice

The Center promotes a physically, mentally, and socially active lifestyle, which is a proven determinant of mobility, health, independence, and quality of life as people age.
A key priority is the early identification of modifiable risk factors to prevent functional decline and delay the onset of chronic morbidity in older adults, an issue of high relevance for both individuals and public health stakeholders.

Through multidisciplinary, translational research and education programmes, conducted in partnership with municipalities and private enterprises, the Center implements large-scale studies to generate evidence-based knowledge. This work aims to bridge the gap between research and practice delivered within public and private health care frameworks, thereby promoting the benefits of active and healthy ageing.
