Computational Staff Scientist
Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Email: rrydbirk@bmb.sdu.dk

Rasmus Rydbirk is a biologist with a strong foundation in molecular techniques. He received his PhD in neuroscience from the University of Copenhagen in 2020 under supervision of Prof. Bente Pakkenberg. His PhD focused on bioinformatic investigations of molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders of the brain using bulk RNA-seq, proteomics, and epigenomics. Thereafter, Rasmus did a postdoc with Prof. Konstantin Khodosevich at the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre at the University of Copenhagen. Here, Rasmus acquired extended knowledge on single-cell RNA-seq bioinformatic methods.

Rasmus joined ATLAS in 2023, and as of 2024 he is employed as a Computational Staff Scientist in ATLAS 2.0. Rasmus is directly involved in, and supervises projects concerning, bioinformatic analyses of high-throughput data with an emphasis on single-cell RNA-seq and/or ATAC-seq. Specifically, he is leading the analyses of single-nucleus RNA-seq data generated from adipose biopsies from obese patients in relation to bariatric surgery. The project aims at heightening the understanding of molecular processes in obese patients undergoing weight loss and bariatric surgery.
