Mikkel is a PhD fellow in the 4+4 program with a passion for utilizing and optimizing innovative molecular techniques in the laboratory and through bioinformatics. He has been a member of Lars Grøntved’s research group since 2022, contributing to ATLAS projects in areas such as adeno-associated virus-induced knockouts, gene regulatory mechanisms, and liver zonation.

After completing his bachelor's degree, Mikkel was recruited to the ATLAS center in October 2024. His research continues focusing on characterizing the liver of mice following regression from metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). This research is enabled by technologies such as single nuclei RNA sequencing in tandem with novel CRISPR approaches which may reveal key insights into MASH regression and its linked complex regulatory mechanisms.
