Benjamin Schnack Brandt Rasmussen has been appointed professor of radiology and medical technology at the Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark. The appointment has been made in collaboration with Odense University Hospital (OUH), where he has also taken up the position of head consultant at the Department of Radiology.

His research focuses on how medical technology can be implemented effectively and responsibly in clinical practice. This involves documenting the impact of new technologies, understanding the organisational context, and ensuring ethical standards that protect patients and support healthcare staff.

The goal is to ensure that new technologies create real value in the healthcare system – not merely as technical innovations, but as solutions that improve treatment and workflows in hospitals.

Research for clinical practice and the healthcare system of the future

The professorship investigates how technological solutions – including advanced imaging and the use of clinical data – can support better decision-making and patient pathways.

The research aims to help bring more solutions into use, both in today’s hospitals and in the healthcare system of the future, where the need for efficient resource use and high quality continues to grow.

Building bridges between technology and clinical practice

A central aim of the professorship is to strengthen collaboration between technological and clinical disciplines. Benjamin S. B. Rasmussen works to ensure that new technologies are developed based on concrete clinical needs and in close cooperation between engineers and healthcare professionals.

This also requires clear workflows and organisational competencies that enable the safe and patient-centred integration of technology in a busy healthcare environment.

Collaboration with industry and the healthcare system of the future

For technological solutions to create value in practice, collaboration with industry and across sectors is essential. This includes working with municipalities and the primary sector to ensure that patient pathways are better connected across the healthcare system.

National and international collaboration

The professorship is founded on a strong network of national and international partnerships. Benjamin S. B. Rasmussen participates in research projects and consortia that aim to translate new knowledge and technologies into practice. He works closely with both public and private stakeholders to ensure the broad implementation of medical technology.
