ATLAS Seminar Series has been launched

30.04.2018

This spring we launched the ATLAS Seminar Series. The first seminar was held April 30, and constituted two talks highly relevant to the obesity research performed in ATLAS:

Tune H. Pers gave a talk entitled "Towards hypothalamic gene networks regulating energy homeostasis - methodologies & preliminary results" where he gave an overview of  single cell transcriptomics- and genome-wide association study data-integration techniques and reported some preliminary findings from his group's work focused on better understanding hypothalamic pathways predisposing to obesity. Tune H. Pers is an AssociateProfessorat the Section for Metabolic Genetics, NNF Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Copenhagen.

Benedicte M. Pers is a Postdoctoral fellow at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen. Her research focus is on how defective Ca2+ handling is  a key mechanism underlying hepatic endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in obesity. Her talk was entitled "Defective Store Operated Calcium Entry through STIM1 in Obesity". She presented a study that  focuses on the ER transmembrane protein STIM1, which they show to be dysfunctional in obesity. Further, they found that liver specific over-expression of STIM1 can improve systemic glucose tolerance in obese animals.

We invite distinct researchers and excellent young researchers in the field to ensure a creative and vibrant research environment. The ATLAS seminars will take place on a monthly basis and are open for all.
