New adjunct professor
Hagen Schmal is appointed adjunct professor in traumatology at the orthopaedic research unit
The Orthopaedic research unit, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, Odense University Hospital , Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark want to strengthen the research within traumatology of the musculo-skeletal system. Complication and sequelae are often of great importance for the patient and result in disability. To improve the outcome for the patient we want to focus on these areas in the future.
Professor Hagen Schmal is a capacity within traumatology and has earlier been consultant surgeon and clinical professor at OUH, SDU. The adjunction as professor makes it possible to develop a fruitful collaboration between the OUH, SDU and Freiburg University Hospital to the benefit for patients and society.
Professor Hagen Schmal has the following comments to the collaboration:
"First of all, I would like to finish my projects regarding the association of posttraumatic osteoarthritis and inflammation in the ankle. Furthermore, I will continue the work on diversity of mesenchymal (stromal) stem cells and their importance for clinical applications in musculoskeletal disorders. Aim of the next 5 years is to develop a long-lasting collaboration between the University Hospitals in Odense and Freiburg which will be based on common scientific projects, symposia and exchange of fellows"
