Professor Pernille Tanggaard Andersen has been appointed new Head of Campus at SDU Esbjerg

- I am looking forward to continuing our collaboration both internally across SDU Esbjerg and externally with the business community, UC Syd, as well as Esbjerg and Grindsted Hospitals, among other local stakeholders. SDU Esbjerg is well-positioned with several new study programmes, and I believe there are ample opportunities for even closer collaboration with the surrounding community.

The campus management team at SDU Esbjerg also includes Professor Per Andersen from the Department of Law; Malene Damstedt, Deputy Head of Department at the Department of Business and Sustainability; Professor Egon Noe from the Centre for Rural Research at the Department of Political Science; Birgit Jahn, Head of Student Services; Lars Vad, Business Consultant at SDU RIO; Sara Christine Nielsen, Campus Coordinator at SDU-Communication; and Campus Dean Ole Skøtt, who is also Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Pernille Tanggaard has served as the Deputy Head of the Department of Public Health Research for several years. She holds the position of Professor and Head of Research in Health Promotion at the Faculty of Health Sciences, within the Department of Public Health at the University of Southern Denmark. Previously, she was an Associate Professor at the same institution, an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Labour Market Research at Aalborg University and has earned her PhD from both Copenhagen and Aalborg Universities, under the national research programme GEP (Gender, Empowerment, and Politics).

Dean Ole Skøtt is very pleased that Pernille Tanggaard Andersen has taken on the leadership role:

- Pernille is the ideal candidate to assume the role of campus leader. She is competent, approachable, and highly regarded, possessing an extensive knowledge of SDU in Esbjerg as well as the diverse educational and research domains that constitute SDU Esbjerg. Moreover, her broad network—locally, nationally, and internationally—will be instrumental in elevating the profile of both Esbjerg and SDU Esbjerg on the global stage.

Pernille Tanggaard Andersen has been with SDU since 2005, focusing her research on health inequalities, the challenges faced by vulnerable populations, cross-sectoral collaboration, and the sociology of health.

A particular focus has been on conducting practice-oriented research and fostering partnerships between municipalities, hospitals, regions, companies, and local stakeholders in civil society.

Tanggaard Andersen serves on the Programme Committee for Health Inequality under the Danish Treatment Council, is a board member of the Centre for Suicide Research in Denmark, a member of the International Research Committee for Public Health in Europe (EPH), and part of the expert group responsible for the Disease Burden reports recently published by the Danish Health Authority. Since 2015, Pernille Tanggaard Andersen has served on the campus council, and beginning in 2023, she has played a role in the campus management at SDU, Esbjerg.
