Pressure tank facilities

The tanks allow exposure of biological samples to pressure levels of up to 1000 bar that prevail in the deep sea.

Continuous horizontal rotation of the tanks keeps small particulate samples in suspension and provides mixing of liquid samples for incubation periods of hours to weeks.

One of the pressure tanks is equipped with optical feedthroughs in the lid that allow real-time oxygen measurements to quantify the respiration activity of pressure-incubated samples.

The pressure tanks can also be used to test the mechanical stability and the functioning of deep-sea-rated instruments.
