Topological quantum computing

National network

In the project "Danish quantum communication infrastructure (QCI.DK)"  we will establish a quantum secured metropolitan network between four Danish public authorities

  • the Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs,
  • the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark,
  • the Ministry of Higher Education and Science,
  • the Centre for Cyber and Digitalisation at the Danish Ministry of Defence,

and 2 associated data centres operated by Statens IT in the Copenhagen area.

In addition, the infrastructure will encompass a 200 km long-distance link between Odense and Copenhagen connecting three participating university partners (SDU, DTU and University of Copenhagen) via the metropolitan network.

Three technologies

QCI.DK will combine three different QKD technologies in one network and thereby enable a broad range of tests and applications. As the first phase, we will develop applications and use-cases in the public authorities’ network and the use-cases will lay the ground for an operational and secure QCI within public bodies in Denmark, that has the possibility to be linked with the long-distance network and in time be a part of the European QCI system.

Long term

In the long term, the use cases will support an emerging quantum start-up ecosystem and business by showcasing the potential of QKD and quantum technology to businesses and society at large through applying and validating QKD in collaboration with public authorities.
