Marie Franchesca Borras Manalo has recently joined SDU as a PhD student/ research fellow to work on the MAP Project - Writing Travel in the Twenty-First Century: Mobility and Authenticity in the Planetary Emergency led by Associate Professor Rune Graulund. In her subproject, Witnessing the Archipelago: Writing the Island in the Time of Planetary Emergency, she will focus on how travel texts articulate and challenge a poetics of place, specifically the islands, in the age of planetary emergency/ crisis. She was a former instructor at the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines where she graduated with a master’s degree in Literary and Cultural Studies. She also served as a head of production and chief copyeditor of Kritika Kultura, a scopus-indexed journal. Her research interests include travel writing, urban studies, mobility studies, memory studies, postcolonial literature, and cultural studies.
