I received my medical degree from the University of Cairo, Egypt (1985), PhD (1993) and DSc (1997) from the University of Aarhus, Denmark. I spent two-year post-doctoral fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA (1993-1995). Since 2002, I have been appointed as professor of Endocrinology and consultant Endocrinologist at the University Hospital of Odense, Odense, Denmark and director of the Laboratory of the Molecular Endocrinology (KMEB). I am also adjunct professor of Stem Cell Biology at the University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Health Sciences (2010).

I am interested in the relationship between art and science and have been a founding member of the Centre of Art and Science at the University of Southern Denmark. I participate in the public debate regarding the role of medicine and science in society. I have participated in several “science theatre” performances with musicians, dancers, philosophers presenting and discussing modern biomedical research and ethical challenges. I have participated several radio programs regarding the future of science and medicine.

I enjoy walking, biking, playing chess and drinking coffee and tea at the local coffee shops with friends.
