Course on Cochrane reviews and other systematic reviews of medical interventions

Course content

This course aims to provide participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to complete a systematic review (SR) of a medical intervention based on Cochrane methodology and to perform a GRADE evaluation of the certainty of the evidence. The course is structured to go systematically through the process of designing a SR, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data, and assessing the certainty of the results. 

Obtain the skills necessary to produce a SR as part of a research team:
  • Understands the process of registering a title and publishing a protocol for a SR
  • Can formulate a structured scientific question for a SR (PICO)
  • Can explain the necessary elements in a protocol for a SR
  • Can provide an understanding of formulating and performing a systematic literature search
  • Has knowledge of the electronic tools available to help the process of systematic reviewing
  • Can explain how to assess risk of bias in randomized trials of interventions
  • Understands how to perform a meta-analysis and how to interpret the results
  • Understands current knowledge on the effects of conflicts of interest and publication bias
  • Able to to perform a GRADE assessment of the certainty of the evidence, formulate conclusions, and be able to read and produce a Summary of Findings Table

A prerequisite for passing the course is that you complete module 1 through 8 of the Cochrane Online Learning Modules. Please set aside two full working days prior to the course for this task. The Graduate School will help you with access to this, after your enrolment to the course.

The course is free of charge for PhD students enrolled in The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Southern Denmark and for PhD 
students enrolled in Universities that have joined the "Open market agreement" and NorDoc agreement. 

For other participants there is a course fee of DKK 4779,32,-
