Laboratory Animal Science - supplementing online course

Course description

This online course is a supplementary course for persons who have previously participated in a Laboratory Animal Science EU Function AD course.
The course provides qualification for persons responsible for animal experiments (license holders, EU Function B) and complies with the legal requirements for the qualification of persons working with laboratory animals, according to Danish law (Bekendtgørelse om dyreforsøg), corresponding to European law (EU Directive 2010/63/EU).
PhD students may participate in this course if they have previously completed a Laboratory Animal Science EU Function AD course, in order to obtain the qualification required to apply for a license to perform animal research.

The course covers, among other topics:

  • Extended legislation, with a focus on the responsibilities of persons carrying out procedures on animals and on license applications
  • Experimental design
  • Ethics, welfare and the 3Rs

Intended learning outcome

After the course, participants should be able to design procedures and projects on animals for scientific procedures. 

Teaching methods

Online self-study via e-learn. 

Course fee

The course is free of charge for PhD students from the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark and other PhD students enrolled in Universities that have joined the "Open market agreement" and NorDoc.

The course fee for all other participants is
