The course for 2024 has been cancelled!

Course description

A PhD requires numerous skills and may lead to a plethora of job opportunities. Thus, it is useful for PhD students to learn “transferable skills” both for use within and outside of academia. These may range from presentation technique to project management and generally equips students with useful tools regardless of their career path. With this course, we wish to train basic and general scientific skills of PhD students that will be useful when progressing through their career. We will cover collaboration, how to work effectively, presentation technique, social media and how to stay updated on the scientific literature. The course will run over 6 weeks and contain a mix of self-paced online learning and face-to-face classes, mostly focused on exercises.

Intended learning outcome:

Attendees will obtain skills that are relevant to their daily work routines, both optimizing their current work life and representing core skills of relevance to future positions both within and out of academia. Specifically, candidates will learn strategies to
… form strong collaborations and conduct efficient meetings
… work efficiently with e-mails
… prioritize tasks and effectively manage their time
… give strong and unique presentations
… use social media as platforms to disseminate knowledge
… optimize the process of writing and publishing academic texts

Teaching metods

Six sessions of 3 hours each to be held once weekly for six consecutive weeks.  Sessions will be preceded by nano modules of short videos presenting the core concepts of the week’s topic.
