Tips and advice

  • Get new employees involved in the period between employment and start-up via good pre-boarding with information and contact before start-up

  • Ensure a good welcome and that colleagues are informed about the new employee and what the new employee will be working with. Have a social and a professional mentor ready to help the employee get started

  • Make sure all the technical, digital and practical matters are in order before the first day of work

  • Structure the onboarding process – it is better to have few and simple initiatives than comprehensive processes that are difficult to succeed with in a busy working day

  • Remember to hold follow-up interviews with the new employee – e.g. after one month, three months and six months

  • Organise the pre- and onboarding as an employee journey – not a checklist
