SCC Elite Centre on Solar Energy Conversion and Storage (SOLEN)
Rapid climate changes have brought upon an urgent and pressing need for the development and utilization of clean energy across societies, at a pace not faced before. We need to increase substantially the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix – solar power being an important part of that mix.
The SCC Elitecenter SOLEN aims to design, engineer, and scale up novel devices for solar energy conversion and storage. This encompasses thin film organic solar cells, as well as new solutions for green hydrogen and energy storage developed from similar processes.
The development and large-scale integration of these novel energy technologies on the energy market must be achieved in an efficient manner, by considering a holistic and cross-disciplinary research approach, where all aspects from material synthesis to device development, scale-up, product innovation, social acceptance and technology adaptation, along with resource and environmental economics, are taking into consideration in the development phase itself.
