Service:
Biomedicinsk Laboratorium er et servicecenter, der yder assistance ved dyreforsøg. Afdelingen fremskaffer forsøgsdyr ved egen avl og ved indkøb, passer dyrene og yder bistand ved prøvetagninger og indgreb. Afdelingen rådgiver desuden i forsøgsdyrfaglige problemer, herunder dyremodeller, forsøgsplanlægning og etiske spørgsmål.
Undervisning:
Afdelingen afholder et 60 timers kursus i dyreforsøgskundskab, der er godkendt af justitsministeriet og giver de nødvendige forsøgsdyrfaglige kvalifikationer for at kunne opnå selvstændig dyreforsøgstilladelse (§1 kursus). Kurset er godkendt som phd-kursus. Der afholdes endvidere et kursus i eksperimentel mikrokirurgi. Dette kursus er godkendt som phd-kursus.
Der arrangeres forskellige kirurgiske færdigheds kurser, bl.a. Sundhedsstyrelsens A-kursus for læger under specialuddannelse i kirurgi, og kirurgikurser for OUH og regionale sygehuse.
Forskning:
Forskning inden for komparativ medicin og forsøgsdyrskundskab koncentrerer sig primært om modeludvikling, metodeforbedring og dyrevelfærd.
