VIDENSKABELIGT. Kardiovaskulær og renal fysiologi, farmakologi, patofysiologi og medicin. Hovedinteresseområde er de mekanismer som er involveret i nyrens regulering af salt- og vandudskillelsen og blodtryk, herunder særligt forhold vedrørende reninsekretion og blodkarrenes funktion. Der arbejdes fra cellulært til integrativt niveau, hovedsageligt i celler og dyremodeller. Tildelt Franz Volhardprisen 1988 (sammen med J.P. Briggs). Uddelt af Nephrologisches Gesellschaft for arbejdet "Direct demonstration of macula-densa-mediated renin release" (Science 237:1618-1620, 1987). Tildelt legat i 1992 (100.000 kr) fra fr. J. Vissing efter indstilling fra SSVF. Tildelt Dansk Nefrologisk Selskabs hæderspris, "Mommsens legat", 2001. Tildelt Dansk Hypertensionsselskabs hæderspris "AstraZeneca legatet" 2002.
