Entry requirements
You qualify for admission if you hold one of the following degrees:
- A Bachelor's degree in English from SDU (gives you a legal claim for admission)
- A Bachelor's degree with a major (135 ECTS) in English from another Danish university
You can also apply if you hold another Bachelor’s degree with a major (135 ECTS) in English, including a minimum of
- 30 ECTS in English-language literature (incl. British and American literature)
- 20 ECTS in English-language history and society (including British and American history and society)
- 30 ECTS in English linguistics (incl. grammar)
- 10 ECTS in philosophy of science or equivalent
- 15 ECTS independent project report or equivalent written in English
When you have applied, the university will determine whether you fulfill the requirements.
Dual-subject Master’s degree programme
You can apply for English in combination with a minor subject. You fulfill the requirements for admission if you hold a Bachelor's degree with a major (135 ECTS) in English from a Danish University and a minor subject from the upper secondary school subject series that can be continued at Master’s level. If you have completed your major in English at SDU, you have a legal claim for admission to the corresponding dual-subject Master's degree programme at SDU.
English language requirements
The programme is taught in English. All applicants without a legal claim for admission are required to prove their English proficiency equivalent to English level A (advanced Danish high school level). See the English language requirements.
Selection criteria
There is a limited number of study places in the programme.
If there are more qualified applicants than study places, the following criteria are used for the selection of applicants without a legal claim:
- The grade point average of your qualifying degree.
If the degree is not completed at the time of application, the grade point average is calculated based on the courses passed at the time of application.

Account of the relevance of your Bachelor’s degree in regard to the Master’s programme, e.g. with reference to parts of your qualifying degree. Hereby showing, that you have considered the content and structure of the Master’s programme.

Account of the relevance of any occupational experience in regard to the Master’s programme

Account of the relevance of other experience (e.g. other education, voluntary work or studies abroad) in regard to the Master’s programme

Account of the knowledge you have about certain areas with relevance to the Master’s programme
The statement must be written in English and uploaded as part of the application.
As a bachelor's student at SDU, you can apply for permission to follow up to 30 ECTS Master's level courses even though you have yet to complete your Bachelor's degree.
You can be granted permission if you have the necessary academic qualifications. The progression of your Bachelor’s programme is crucial to the outcome of your application.

Have you completed a Master's programme?
If you've already obtained a Master's degree, you can only be admitted to a new programme if there are vacant study places in the programme.
