Entry requirement
To apply for the Master's programme in Comparative Public Policy and Welfare Studies you need a relevant Bachelor's degree.
You can apply if you hold a university bachelor degree in:
- Social Science with a minor subject (tilvalg) from SDU – gives you a legal claim for admission
- All Social sciences
- Political Science
- Social Work
- History
- Areas studies
- International Negotiation - Economics, language and culture
You can also apply if you hold a university bachelor's degree within Humanities if your degree includes a minimum of 20 ECTS points of courses belonging to the following areas:
- Comparative politics, comparative policies
- International relations, European studies
- Sociology
- Economics
- Research methods
- Contemporary history
Applicants who do not have the required basis for admission, but who, based on a University College level education, are assessed as possessing the necessary preconditions for being able to complete the programme, may apply to the University for admission.
Admission may be conditional on the passing of one or more supplementary examinations.
Language requirements
The programme requires proficiency in English as well as Danish.
Danish
If you apply on grounds of a Danish Bachelor's programme instructed in Danish, there is no need for further documentation of your proficiency in Danish.
If your Bachelor's degree isn't from Denmark, you must submit proof of your proficiency in Danish, Norwegian, Swedish or Icelandic. This applies to Danish citizens as well.
Please note that at least one mandatory course will be taught in Danish.
English
All applicants are required to prove their proficiency in English. See the English and Danish language requirements.
Selection criteria
There is a limited number of study places in the programme.
If there are more qualified applicants than study places, applicants are selected based on the grade point average of the qualifying degree. If the degree is not completed at the time of application, the grade point average is calculated based on the courses passed at the time of application.
As a bachelor's student at SDU, you can apply for permission to follow up to 30 ECTS Master's level courses even though you have yet to complete your Bachelor's degree.
You can be granted permission if you have the necessary academic qualifications. The progression of your Bachelor’s programme is crucial to the outcome of your application.

Have you completed a Master's programme?
If you've already obtained a Master's degree, you can only be admitted to a new programme if there are vacant study places in the programme.
