Entry requirements
To apply for the Master's programme in Economics, you need a relevant Bachelor's degree. You can apply if you hold one of the following degrees:
- BSc in Economics from SDU - gives you a legal claim for admission
- BSc in Economics from another Danish university
- BSc in Mathematics and Economy from SDU or another Danish university
- BSc in Economics and Business Administration (HA) from SDU. The degree is qualifying if it includes the following courses:
- Behavioural economics (10 ECTS) or Strategy and markets (10 ECTS) or Welfare economics (10 ECTS)
- Econometrics (10 ECTS) or Regression analysis (10 ECTS)
You can also apply if you hold a similar degree. As a minimum, the following subjects must be included with the stipulated number of ECTS:
- Mathematics 10 ECTS
- Statistics and econometrics 15 ECTS
- Microeconomics 20 ECTS
- Macroeconomics 10 ECTS
- Finance 10 ECTS
English language requirements
The programme is taught in English. Therefore, you are required to submit proof of your English proficiency unless your Bachelor's gives you a legal claim for admission. See the English language requirements.
Supplementing your degree
It is possible to supplement your Bachelor’s degree with a maximum of 30 ECTS to meet the admission requirements. Of these a maximum of 10 ECTS can be completed during the first semester of the Master’s degree programme. Any other supplementary courses must be completed before study start. It is not possible to complete supplementary courses in Microeconomics, Econometrics, or Finance during the first semester of the Master’s degree programme. These must be completed before study start.
Selection criteria
If there are more qualified applicants than there are places on the programme, applicants will be prioritised according to the following criteria:
- Grade average in the relevant, qualifying education.
- A statement of academic relevance in which you argue how your bachelor’s degree and any work-related experiences (internship, paid work, etc.) qualify you for admission to the desired master’s degree (maximum of 1,200 characters including spaces).
The grade average is weighted with 75% and the statement of academic relevance with 25 %.
As a bachelor's student at SDU, you can apply for permission to follow up to 30 ECTS Master's level courses even though you have yet to complete your Bachelor's degree.
You can be granted permission if you have the necessary academic qualifications. The progression of your Bachelor’s programme is crucial to the outcome of your application.

Have you completed a Master's programme?
If you've already obtained a Master's degree, you can only be admitted to a new programme if there are vacant study places in the programme.
