Institute of Forensic Medicine is working according to a quality system, comprising the activities of the investigations undertaken by the Department of Forensic Chemistry. The Department of Forensic Pathology is accredited according to the DS/EN ISO/IEC 17020 "General criterions for undertaking inspections", and the Department of Forensic Chemistry is accredited according to DS/EN ISO/IEC 17025.

The accreditation is made by the Danish Accreditation Fund (DANAK).

DANAK is the national accreditation body in Denmark according to the EU regulations No. 765/2008.

DANAK is comprised by multilateral agreements for testing and calibration in European co-operation for Accreditation
(EA) and in International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) based on peer-evaluation. This Means that accredited test reports and calibration certificates issued by laboratories accredited by DANAK, are recognised across national borders by members of EA and ILAC.

The international cooperation ensures that the accreditations can be recognised across national borders. Thus facilitating international trade.
