Geothermal Energy in the Danish District Heating Sector

This study focuses on implementing geothermal energy into the district heating system as a partial solution to the 2035 energy strategy in Denmark. The possible closure of the coal fired Block 7 at Fynsværket (CHP plant) in the near future means that new heat sources must provide the energy needed for district heating. Using the district heating system in Kerteminde as a case, the potential for geothermal heating in Denmark is evaluated through analyses of economics, risks and uncertainties.
