Students flocking to SAMF

This year, 1441 new students will begin studying on one of the 19 Bachelor programmes offered by the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences (SAMF) at SDU.

That’s 136 more students compared to last year, corresponding to an 10% increase, and the SAMF faculty has seen the University’s largest increase in the number of new students.

This is the result after yesterday’s 11:59 p.m. deadline had passed for this year's applicants to accept the study place they have been offered.

- We are really looking forward to welcoming this year’s class. These are new times where, due to the corona situation, we are busy planning this year's study startup and teaching to ensure our new students settle into university life in a safe and sound manner, says Jan Guldager Jørgensen, Vice Dean for Education at the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences.

At the same time, he is pleased with the growing interest in the subject area of social sciences.

- It’s great to see that so many young people have chosen to study on our social science programmes here at SDU – both for us as a whole but not least the labour market, where our graduates are in great demand, he adds.

Several subject areas are a hit

The Economics and Business Administration and Commercial Law programmes are among those that have admitted more students this year. The same applies, among other programmes, to Mathematics-Economics, Market and Management Anthropology, European Studies and Social Science (see the distribution below).

As in previous years, many have applied for Law, Political Science and Journalism. Due to the capacity limitations of each programme, the number of admitted students is more or less the same as usual.

Distributed among SDU's various campuses, Sonderborg, Slagelse and Odense will soon be welcoming an increasing number of SAMF students. Compared to last year, Sonderborg and Slagelse have seen an increase of no less than 23% and 22%, respectively, while 12% more new students will be spending their days in Odense. On the other hand, Kolding and Esbjerg have seen a slight decline by 3% and 7%, respectively.

Altogether, 1,610 applicants were offered a study place in a social sciences programme at SDU, and 1,441 applicants accepted the offer to study on one of the programmes.

That number may go up, as several education programmes had vacancies and were open for applications until the deadline yesterday.
