Future Role and Integration of the Danish Gas Grid in a Renewable Energy System

This thesis deals with grid planning of the Danish gas system in a 2030 and 2050 perspective with possible outcomes of gas consumption and injection of renewable gas. The purpose of this study is to develop a model that simulates behaviours of the Danish gas system with the goal of analysing strategies that can be used for a technoeconomic optimisation.

It is found that a connected distribution grid, reduction of pressure levels in the southern part of the transmission grid along with decentralised placement of Gas-to-Liquid plants is favoured in the perspective of the gas system.

It is also found that the potential from point source CO2 is enough to supply the gas demand and create an opportunity for Denmark to become net exporter of gasses and fuels in a 100% renewable gas system.
