Obesity - a major risk factor for development of a plethora of life-threatening metabolic diseases

31.07.2019

In late June 2019, ATLAS organized an international symposium on Tissue Plasticity of Obesity.

The symposium took place in Middelfart – Denmark, at Hindsgavl Castle, -a place with several hundred years of history. It was a perfect setting to host a conference and the large 40.000m2 Castle´s park worked really well for park sessions.

The symposium included several invited talks by international top scientists, short talks by younger scientists, park sessions and a poster session.

80 scientists and clinicians within the obesity and liver field spend two days on topics like the molecular and cellular mechanisms of adipose and hepatic tissue plasticity, clinical studies and pathophysiological consequences of obesity.

With all the top scientists in fields all related to; obesity, tissue plasticity and fatty liver disease there was a great opportunity to network and discuss on-going projects with experts. ATLAS had specifically arranged small group discussions (outside) where young scientists, students and senior scientists exchanged ideas. That was one of the several highlights of the program.

“We will most definitely repeat this event simply because it proves how important it is that we meet and connect across disciplines and research areas – it has been a unique opportunity to discuss on-going projects”, says Center Director, Professor Susanne Mandrup.

ATLAS thank all the participants for their engagement and the Danish National Research Foundation for their generous support. We hope to organize an ATLAS Symposium again.
